Writing About Something Flexible, Yet Strong Mysteries of Life

The strongest one is the most flexible one. The one that allows everything to go through it, the one that just washes over the moments of time and passing into one moment to the next, not worrying about tomorrow. The strongest one is the one that feeds all the rivers that flow into the ocean. The strongest one can break all the fevers without even having any antibiotics; it is as if it is the antibiotic itself, without needing a chemically-made one.

The strongest one that quenches the deepest and longest thirst, the thirst that no soda can handle, and no ice tea can quench. The strongest one that cuts deep ridges into rocks without using a sharp knife or metal, the strongest is, unbelievably, the softest, the seemingly-weakest.

As the fires rage and burn all the trees away and as the fires rage on and tear down homes, buildings, entire forests, and more, the only thing that stops this rage is the weakest one -the strongest one, water.

Water, though the most subtle, most flexible, most yielding, is indeed the strongest one. We look at a handful of water and see nothing but something that cannot even stand up by itself. Yet we hold in our hands-if we could hold it in our hands, the strongest element. It is not fire, steel; it is not anything else that is stronger , yet, to look at a puddle of water, we see nothing but a child's delight.

Water is strong. Water is flexibly, quietly, and delightfully strong. Let us all be like water, in those instances that we are able to be -just like water. We can be quietly, unassumingly, flexibly, and unstoppable - like water.

If you are in a desert , you look for water, not for the sword, the gun, the computer, or anything else. All you need is water. With that water, you can begin anew, anywhere. Be strong. Be like water. When someone comes up against you, go around them. When someone attacks you, flow around the attack and go right to your sanctuary. When someone tries to stop you from being you, or from being free, do not argue, just flow. Flow like water, to a safe place, and continue to flow until you are in a space that permits you to be you.

Flow! Be cool. Be like water. Flow.

REAL (NOT Emulation) WeatherStar 4000 Emulator Forecast Churdan, Iowa -- January 31, 2009

When we got more channels (after like TEN years) added to our cable, I thought I'd check out The Weather Channel control city, which is Fort Dodge. Now Fort Dodge residents have Mediacom, in which they have Intellistar, but Gowrie, a sleepy town of approximately 1100 people has "Gowrie Cablevision", reaching out to smaller communitites, and snagged Churdan away from Breda Teleservices, which discontinued their cable services completely. As you can see it is like it was pulled out of the 1990s, with the default cable provider logo, AND to top things off, there is no ticker at the bottom of the screen. Just the TWC logo hangs out in the lower right hand corner during non-Local on the 8's broadcasting. It is weird...you'd think they would have to upgrade sometime!

Hire You? Hire Me? Age Discrimination Covers the Nation

What about my looks? Should I be concerned about what I look like? Sometimes you wonder about things like this, correct? You spend half of your lifetime wondering about your looks. You spend the next part of your lifetime wondering how you can look better. How you can change your hair color, how you can make your skin look younger, how you can make yourself pass for years younger, and yet why do you do this? You do it to be more accepted.

Yes, acceptance is a very important thing to most of us on this earth. Think about it. Who gets chosen for the jobs? Younger people have an advantage, so many times, when applying for a job. So, people want to look young. They think that this gives them an advantage, when in actuality; it gives them an advantage only in a company that chooses to be artificial and vain. But in a company that wants experience, in a company that wants the job right, it will be different. In one company that is more concerned about progress, about success, about getting the job done right, then the emphasis will be more on experience, knowledge and professionalism than it will be on appearance. So, if you are changing yourself, changing your appearance just to suit the world's impression of youth, and of success, then you might be doing more damage to yourself than you know.

Do not assume that all companies are like that-that they seek youth and nothing else. There are companies out there that seek knowledge, experience, professionalism, and yes, age too. Smart executives know that professionalism, skill, knowledge and experience come with age. When they look for office managers, or administrative assistants, you will not catch them looking for twenty-year olds but you will see that their search to fill the job is more like, hey, where are the thirty and forty-year old employees?

If you are in a position of hiring, have you ever passed a good employee by just because you thought that they were too old or too young? Have you done that? You looked at the application, first checked the age box and then placed that application in the negative box, in the place where your applications would be going into the garbage? You are guilty of age discrimination and one day your errors will catch up to you and come back to haunt you. You might think that you are getting away with it; you might think that no one knows you are doing this, but hey, we all answer to a higher authority. And even if your boss does not catch you, in the next life, you will be punished for your discriminations, your judgments and your errors in judgment.

If you are reading this and if you are guilty of age discrimination, know that your reign is only temporary and that soon, it will all backfire on you. (Have you ever thought that someday, you too, might be in a position to be judged by someone? Has it occurred to you that you too, one day, might be judged by your AGE and not by your own ability to do a job or not? Ahh, you cringe at that thought. You want to be accepted for being yourself, yet you refuse to accept other humans for whom they are themselves.

Acceptance! Acceptance makes the difference between getting that job and being passed on by. So what is your view on acceptance? If you are in a position of hiring or even of reviewing resumes, do not make any assumptions on age when it comes to interviewing, or hiring. Let all your misconceptions and generalizations go away before you get to the interviewing table. INTERVIEW EVERYONE! That is correct. Interview everyone, no matter what their age, interview everyone. You might be surprised at what happens. If you put away your generalizations about age and about employment, you just might come up with some of the best employees of a lifetime. Just do it. When you are looking over your resumes and employment applications, do NOT look at the birthdate or age box on those applications. Look, first, instead to the education and to the qualifications and to the employment background of the past five years. That is all you need to know. Then call for your interviews and give the best person the job-WITHOUT looking at the age box.

This is the only true, genuine way to hire great employees. Age has nothing to do with the quality of work when it comes to doing the job. You will find, in your own experience, that there are great employees , in all age groups, in all age brackets. Just put away your generalizations, your misconceptions and all your pre-conceived notions about age and dates. This is the only real way to hire excellent employees. It is against the law to discriminate against people because of their age and each time you pass someone by just because you think that they are too young or too old, you are breaking the law! That is correct. You are breaking the law. I suggest that you mend your ways and go back to the right way of doing business. Interview everyone.

Repeat! Interview everyone. And then choose the best PERSON right for the job, not the best age right for the job.

Green Tea? Give a Half-Gallon to Me!

Have you ever noticed that your habits change depending on where you are? If you watch yourself and your behavior does it change when you are indoors and when you are outdoors? I have just recently noticed that about myself. What is the difference? And how does this difference affect my life?

This is a question that I pose to you, about yourself. Do you eat or drink different foods and beverages when you are outdoors? Does the weather affect your habits? And if so, why? Could it be that the warmer weather now causes us and everyone else to drink more? And if so, what is your beverage of choice? For me I am glad that my beverage of choice has changed recently. I used to drink tons of Pepsi but I have switched to drinking green tea. So green tea is obviously more healthy for me than the Pepsi is. But then really thinking about it, I see that perhaps it is not the drink that is the problem for me but how often I drink it when I am indoors. I noticed that on a weekend day when I stay home, and I am busy doing things indoors, I tend to drink a half-gallon of green tea. Yes, that is right a whole half-gallon of ice tea. And I know that cannot be healthy, but it helps keep me cool in my warm apartment.

So what do you notice about your change in drinking or eating habits on days when you spend the whole day outdoors as opposed to days when you are indoors working on projects and or just watching television or organizing the place? Did you even notice a difference when there was a huge difference? Or is one day just like the next for you and do you stay exactly the same, weekends and or weekdays also?

Here is a challenge for you for this coming week. Write down every single thing that you drink and eat during the day and note whether you went outdoors or not. Do this for three weekends in a row and do this for three weeks in a row. After it is all over, look over your list. You might be very surprised at the outcome of your own observations.

You Can Produce a Television Show

Are you a new producer or are you looking to become a television producer? I wrote this article with you in mind. Here are the details.

Desire - If you have a desire to produce television shows, you can do it. All you need is a great desire to be successful in this business and you need the time it takes to do the productions. You might need time for rehearsals if your show is one that requires rehearsals. But you can begin with hardly any money at all. Most community access studios and stations have classes and courses that are free and or at low cost. When you investigate the cost of college film classes and college television production classes you will see that the cost of the community access courses is a small fraction of that. (You probably can take a course at most community access studios for under one hundred and ten dollars). And then once you take that course there are other courses, some of which are totally free. Once you are a certified studio producer, you might have access to media labs and to editing stations, depending on where you live and what studio you are involved with.

The basic cost to you is the first course price, plus you pay for your own transportation and meals and whatever else you need. Here are some guidelines and some information to help you get started right away:

Begin:

First, never let anything, that is correct, anything stop you from beginning. If you have that desire to produce television and you have no money to go to school, know that this is not going to stop you from reaching your goals. Do one single thing each and every day towards working towards your goal and you will be more successful than the average person who is embarking on a new career.

Do a web search or a telephone search for the community access station in your neighborhood. (Most require a residence proof - a utility bill or lease from your apartment to show you are a resident). Near the end of this article I will list some sites to get you started on the right track). In New York City, look up MNN, and look up other community access television studios.

Call your local community access station and ask what their requirements are. If you like what you hear, tell them right there that you want to become a studio or remote/field producer. Follow their instructions as soon as possible. Ask them to send you the application through the mail, if they do that.

Get a check or money order for payment of the courses. Most of these studios will not accept cash. Have your check ready when you go there, just in case they are ready to accept your application.

Put the date on your calendar and then just show up.

There you are, you have begun your career or hobby in television production by beginning your education. There are some studios where you can go to school for a little as six weeks and you can become officially certified as a studio producer. Call your own studio to get the exact details on classes and timing. To get you started now, in real life, I am providing great web links. Check these links and you are taking the first steps to becoming a community access producer right where you life. The first link is for those who live in Manhattan, New York. The second link is a universal link that will connect you with community access stations all over the whole United States of America. And the next link after that is one that lots of people would be interested in. Are you interested in producing shows in Hollywood? Well, there is a link for West Hollywood. That is a beginning for you if Hollywood is your goal. And check the global link for all other cities. The key here to most all community access is that you must live there; you must be a resident of the city. So if you want to produce shows in Hollywood studios, you need to move to Hollywood. If that is your goal, I suggest that you begin where you are in your own city, become established and experienced and then make your move is Hollywood is your goal. You might take a vacation there just to see how it is. I am sure that there are many community producers there who might love a visit from producers of your own city. Take a studio tour and see what is happening in West Hollywood. Almost every large city has a community access television studio. Even Palm Springs has community access (PSC-TV and PS-TV Channel 17). The last link listed is for the California community access studios.

Five Links to Get You on the Right Track!

http://www.briconline.org/bcat/default.asp
http://www.mhat.tv/access/CACATlist.html

The reason why only one link is in bold is because this link contains links and information on most community access studios throughout the United States of America, and the other links are for individual cities or areas. The bold link gives you information on no matter what city in the USA that you live in. The other links are for cities in New York, California and other states. Now you are beginning. Congratulate yourself on taking first steps to becoming a certified television producer. Good luck with your adventure and with your education. I would love to hear from you about your experiences in your own city.

Why all the secrecy? The reason it is hard to find out about community access television in some communities is because some insecure producers feel threatened by new producers coming into the business. They have the misinformed idea that new producers are in competition with them, so they do not and will not share free information with the newer or prospective producers. I feel differently. I love the share the information that I have because I know that everyone can use good information. So here are some suggestions for when you become certified in your own city or state:

Reminders:

Welcome all new producers and see them as co-workers, not as competition.

Treat everyone with the same respect. That means treat the new producers with the same respect that you treat seasoned producers with.

Be prepared. Do lots of research for your shows. Come prepared, even if you do your show ad-libbed, have the research with you just in case you need to use it.

Invite everyone to be on your show. Most people have an obvious or a hidden talent. IF the talent is hidden, draw it out now. If the talent is obvious then -wow, get going on your show.

Be courteous, kind, professional to all human beings that come across your path.

Keep your trust guarded. As every community access station has people from all over the community, all types and all personalities, remember that your studio is just a smaller world. Therefore, get to know people very well before you trust them. You do not trust producers just because they are producers. And remember that you can respect people without trusting them. Let producers earn your trust; do not give it away freely. That will keep you and your production safe.

Give No Money to Participate In Shows:

If any community producers ask you for money or expect to get paid for their help, go in the other direction. True community producers do not ask or hint for money, so do not take the hint and never pay producers. You can bring food if you like or bring food for the spirit, but the moment that a producer insists on money or asks or demands money, take that producer off of your list for future productions. There are way too many excellent producers in the business to be bothered by producers who are in community access to make money from you.

These are ways to help you get started and to help you stay in the community access television business. You can think your own ways up. Brainstorm with your friends or co-workers. You are the voice of your community. Share that voice with others and you will all be successful in all your endeavors. I hope this information helps you get started in the business of community access television.

Camping and Tents 101 - a Quick Lesson in Convenience

What good is camping anyway? Most people think of camping and they think of sitting in the dirt with insects all around and then sleeping on a hard rock floor. They think of hoving around each other at night in a camp --afraid of what noices they are hearing from the trees or forests. However, if you are one of the people who love to go camping, then you think the opposite of all that. When you love nature and you love camping out, you think of all the wonderful times that you will have even if it rains the entire time.

When you love camping you are thinking that you are the closest to nature than you will ever be; you are closest to pure natural stress relief there is. When you love camping, you look forward to camping season and you are probaby sad to see it end. Most of us think about camping one way or the other. You either love it hate ir or you have no clue what camping is about.

So, here are some ideas, suggestions and comments, along with some great product descriptions:

Camping will and does lower blood pressure because having less stress has been known to lower blood pressure also and camping relieves stress.
Camping provides that no stress atmosphere --if you camp with a tent. You never have to worry about doing the dishes or about entertaining people.
You can have your first experience building your own home; now how is that for being different. And yes, putting a tent together is building a home. Yes it is a temporary home, but still it will be your home for at least a day or perhaps a week, depending on how long you intend to camp out.
Camping is one of the best ways to teach children about nature. After all mostly all around most campsites you will find nature and natural settings.

Here are some things to bring with you when you go camping with your tent or tents:

Money. Yes, bring money. It pays to be prepared, even if you are only camping out for a few days.
Dried foods (Some dried foods are raisens, oatmeal cookies, dry cereal, nuts, rice cakes, and if need be, pototo chips or cheese doodles.
Wild camping? You will need a water supply and you might need iodine tablets to purify your water. Bring a small filter so you can filter stream water.
Grippers or Gophers are all important. These metal/plastic extensions are great for reaching inside the tent, for catching spiders and for letting them go out in nature.
Identification. Always bring identification with you when camping out in any state park or private campsites or forests. You will need this in an emergency.
Haha, a luxury tip for tenters: If you bring a small George Forman grill, you can cook burgers and veggies on there and leave all the charcoal, grills and bbq things at home.
Buckets and containers: These are necessary. These items keep the tent clean and dry and keep your things organized. Bring the bucket with you when you go to the shower. You can put your watch and wallet and other things inside a child's small beach bucket, and now everything stays dry while you shower.
Lots of string or cord for the tent stakes, and tents, tarps and other related items.
Music and electronics and coloring books and games for those stormy times when you need to be outside your tent (perhaps in the gamerooms or somewhere else).
Friends and family for some camping trips and be sure to do some solo trips also. A good mix is the health idea.

Some other good snacks are Craisins, yogurt candies, watermelon, crackers, pretzels, and more. Bring something with wheels on it if you have to walk far from the car, you can tote your items on wheels or let everyone carry their own share. Other camping hints:

Attach the fly of the tent ONLY after you have completely tied the tent down to the ground with a sufficient number of stakes. One year I did not tie the tent down and let go of it for a split second. One six foot high tent went flying up in a gust of wind. I have to chase this tent for half the size of a football field before I caught up with it. So, moral of this story is always stake this tent down before attaching the fly. For non-campers, the fly is that extra piece of tent/material that goes on top of the tent. It attaches to the tent with string. As you can see, a nice wind picks the tent up and if the fly is not attached it will not fly too far away from you.

Here is a link for one of the best tents you can purchase. I purchased this tent for about $70 dollars AFTER the camping season was over. And it is the best tent that I have ever put together. One person can assemble this --even on a windy day. My version actually had two plastic windows in the fly that covered the screen windows on rainy camping days. I recomment Tetragon and especially Tetragon 9 or Tetragon 7.

Stay tuned in for other helpful hints in other articles.

How to Protect Your iPod

The handheld device arena has been expanding exponentially as companies such as Apple introduce new technologies to the marketplace on a yearly basis. More so now than ever before it has become essential to protect your valuable investment. The Apple iPod is no different. The sensitive nature of today's iPods has proven that taking good care of your iPod is the key to making it last.

The electronic intricacies of today's iPod video and music players have made them susceptible to damage both from the elements and the end user. Damage can occur from extreme heat, cold, a drop and fall, or even from rough physical activity. By using the proper accessories and by following some basic rules you can reduce the risk of such damage.

There are a multitude of aftermarket accessories available for iPods. As for protecting your iPod the most common choices are the exterior case and screen protector. Choosing the correct accessory can be a daunting task as the design and provided protection can vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. Cases are available in a variety of styles, colors, and materials. A simple slip on rubber case works well for many applications. The rubber case helps protect against drop and falls and scratches. Screen protectors on the other hand will provide you with an added layer of protection against scratches to the outside screen. They may in some instances also provide a basic level of crack protection although this is usually minimal. Most cases, unless noted, are generally susceptible to water and should not be used to protect against such damage.

It pays to do some research and choose the proper protection that will hold up to the rigors of your daily activities. To choose the proper case you may want to consider a few things. The first would be to understand the environment the iPod will be used in. Many younger adults and children own iPods requiring a better equipped case to ensure proper protection. The second would be the activities that you will perform while using your iPod. If you are a runner you will want to find a case that secures the iPod while also protecting against sweat, excessive heat, etc.

Protecting your iPod against extreme heat, cold, and water falls on the user. An iPod should not be left in a vehicle or in an area that is exposed to high temperatures. The sensitive internal components of the iPod can damage from the elevated or reduced operating temperatures. It is advised to keep such devices at or near room temperature preferably in a dry environment.

Using some common sense and the proper protection can prevent any mishaps with your iPod. Keeping your device well protected at all times is recommended and will help you keep your iPod in optimal running condition for years to come.

Produce Your Own Show Things You Might Need

How much does it cost to become a television producer? Most times it costs about one hundred dollars or less unless you take the subject in college or in a trade school. In that latter cases it can be quite costly. The professional schools in Manhattan cost major big bucks and they do not give you a study at the end of your studies. By far the most reasonable school around is the community access school and studio.

When you came to community access, what are the costs, besides money that are involved? You need time, lots of time if you want to produce shows on a regular basis. You need creativity or brainstorming or networking to get your talent, stars, hosts and co-hosts. You need persistence and dedication to the job that you will be doing once you begin producing shows. You need to know when to keep on going (always), and when it is time to quit (never). So there you go; you have most of your answers.

What are the other things that you might need to produce your show? That depends on what your studies are like and depends on how much free time you have to invest in your project. (If you buy or have your own equipment, this saves time for you since you do not have to arrange special times to pick up and deliver the equipment back to the studio -- the case of the remote or field shows. By having your own equipment, even if it is minimal or inexpensive, you cut down on appointments at the studio, and sometimes you can edit right in the camera itself, so that cuts down on editing time also.

So, I believe the biggest cost that you might have is your time investment; you will always be investing time in pre-production, production and post-production. Money is an investment too, but your time is your most valuable investment in anyone's serious show. Other things you might need are your own props, your own furniture (though that is not necessary). You might want to bring in your own posters or artwork for the walls in your television shows. You might being in some small easels to post the art up on. If you are doing remote or field shows, you might need some rain-gear and some tarps or plastic sheets or the plastic camera covers, to keep everything clean and spotless.

You might need some music or cds to open and close the show with. You can use canned music or if you know a musician, you can use that person as an introduction. You might need some tablecloths if you decide to use the studios furniture. By using your own tablecloths, you add a special touch, a personalized tough to the show in that none of the other producers will have the exact same set as you have. So, think about personalizing the show with your own accessories, tablecloths, banners, posters or other small items. You might want to bring a flowering potted plant or some other natural items.

Here are additions that might make your show special for you:

Use a feng-shui touch. Check out a book on feng-shui and use the helpful hints for your shows backgrounds and scenes. You can even use feng-shui in the conference room if you have time.
Use recorded music of your own or of a friends.
Use a keyboard to play some "demo" music. That can be a nice opening to the show also.
Make large copies of your business card to use as a sign or banner.

You can get your business cards in under one hour at most office supply stores. (At one such store, they were recently selling 100 business cards for twenty dollars plus you get an extra free 100 business cards). That works fine if you are in a hurry for the cards and need them the same day for the show.

You can go online, way in advance, and order free business cards from many companies. (They like to give free samples to ring you in as a future customer). You can go online to the Microsoft website and design your own cards. If you have no printer, take your saved document to any public library and have them printed out for ten cents per page. Bring your own paper or business card sheets to load the printer with. Ask the librarian for details on how to do this.

Of course you will need people, producers, hosts and co-hosts. You can usually find willing participants if you do your research.

These (listed above) are just a few of possible costs to having your own show. Nothing is required except the reservation for the studio and the contacts, your talent and hosts. Everything else is optional. We will talk about other helpful websites and other options for new producers in some of our upcoming articles.

Direct TV Gives You The Ultimate Control Over How You Watch TV

If you've ever wanted total control over your television viewing experience, you'll be glad to know that Direct TV is here to accommodate your needs. Direct TV has lots of features which put control of how you watch TV where it should be: in your hands.

One great example of how Direct TV can help you to maximize the control you have over your own television viewing experience can be seen in the on screen program guide that comes standard on every subscription. The on screen program guide is basically a table that you can bring up on your television screen. Each cell of the table is occupied by a program along with all of the information that you need to decide whether or not it's something that you want to watch. You can scroll up or down using your remote control to see what's on different channels and you can even scroll to the right to see what will be on in the future. All you have to do to go to a show that's already on is to highlight it and select it using the remote control.

Another piece of software that comes standard on all of Direct TV's subscriptions and with all satellite receiver models are Parental Controls. Parental Controls can be used to limit the amount of time that kids can watch TV and the amount of money that they can spend on Pay-Per-View programming. You can also control what your kids watch by blocking out entire channels, specific movies, or everything with certain MPAA ratings. Best of all, you cans still watch whatever you want by entering your own personal identification number.

One way that Direct TV gives you control over what you watch is by offering a variety of channels that can be added to any programming package. For example, you can get access to Pay-Per-View programming, Spanish and other non-English programming, a large variety of seasonal sports subscriptions, adult programming, and a wide selection of High Definition Television programming. Directtv programming and service is superior to Cox Communications, Time Warner, Charter Communications, CableVision and all other cable television providers.

Even the choices that you have among Direct TV's programming packages help you to choose how you watch television. For example, if you don't need many channels you can opt for the Family Choice which has over forty channels. If that's enough of a selection for you, then you don't have purchase channels that you aren't going to use. Directv's Total Choice gives you a great selection of one hundred and fifty five channels. Total Choice Plus increases the selection to one hundred and eighty five channels, and Total Choice Premier has two hundred and fifty channels and is the package of choice if you love movies and sports.

Directtv can also give you the ultimate control over how you watch TV with one of its Digital Video Recorders. A Direct TV Digital Video Recorder (DVR) can record and store up to seventy hours of programming that you love, but your busy schedule and obligations cause you to miss. The Digital Video Recorder can then play the recordings back for you, when you're ready and with the same high quality digital television picture and sound that you would've enjoyed if you had watched the original broadcast. A Digital Video Recorder also provides you with more control over how you watch live TV by giving you the ability to pause and replay any scene you want. This is a great option for people who love their TV, but are often distracted by children or important business calls.

Direct TV is the obvious choice for control over your television viewing experience. Switch to the best satellite television provider with the best service. Start now.
